Pandemic Impact

  • In 2019, the Aurora Public Library District’s (APLD) Bookmobile conducted 165 children’s programs.
    Covid-19 Impact: Twelve programs were provided before the pandemic. Programming is not expected to resume until 2021 (90% decrease in 2020 programming from 2019).
  • In 2019, the APLD system-wide conducted 1,207 non-virtual children’s programs.
    Covid-19 Impact: Only 207 programs took place before the pandemic. Programming is not expected to resume until 2021 (83% decline).
  • In 2019, 32,133 children attended programs system-wide.
    Covid-19 Impact: Prior to the pandemic, 4,324 children attended non-virtual programming. Non-virtual programming is not expected to be offered again until 2021 (87%).
  • In 2019, the Bookmobile visited 975 school classes.
    Covid-19 Impact: Two hundred and thirty-two school classes were visited prior to the pandemic – to date that is a 76% decline. School visits are not expected to resume until 2021.
  • By August 31, 2019, the Aurora Public Library District librarians (system-wide) had responded to 84,864 reference questions.
    Covid-19 Impact: Only 23,550 have been responded to as of August 31, 2020.
  • By August, 31, 2019, Bookmobile librarians responded to more than 9,500 reference questions.
    Covid-19 Impact: Only 3,488 have been responded to as of 8/31/2020.
  • By August 31, 2019, the Aurora Public Library District circulated 943,000 itemssystem-wide.
    Covid-19 Impact: By August 31, 2020, only 418,000 have circulated.
  • By August 31, 2019, the Bookmobile circulated close to 45,000 items.
    Covid-19 Impact: By August 31, 2020, only 12,600 items have circulated.
