Lace Up for Literacy 5K- Beyond the Beaten Path
3rd Annual virtual 5K benefits Summer Reading and helps provide Literacy Packets to kids in Aurora.
Join the APLD Foundation in our 3rd annual Virtual 5K Lace Up for Literacy and you will become a Literacy Hero! Literacy Heroes are those who help bring literacy solutions to Aurora families through their participation in Foundation events and/or by making donations to the Foundation.
Our 5K theme this year is Literacy Heroes Beyond the Beaten Path. You can sign up now at www.summeradventure.givesmart.com and run your 5K anytime between July 17th – July 24th. Your registration will include a 5K Tee Shirt, participation medal and goodie bag filled with fun stuff from our sponsors!
Send photos of your start, finish or any point along the way to foundation@aurorapubliclibrary.org. Proceeds from your registration will benefit Summer Reading and provide Literacy Packets for vulnerable children!
There are many places to run, hike or walk Beyond the Beaten Path in Aurora! Choose one of the following locations, or pick your own scenic spot:
- Virgil Gilman Nature Trail, the trail head is accessible from Terry Avenue
- Oakhurst Forest Preserve, 1680 5th Avenue
- Aurora West Forest Preserve-Bring your four-legged friend with you to the dog park on Hankes Road!
- Waubonsee Lake Park, 998 Kautz Rd. Great for kids with playground, fishing and waterfront picnic pavilion.
- Barnes Forest Preserve, 39W001 Prairie Street. Walk along the overlook to enjoy viewing wildlife during your visit.
This year’s summer reading adventure is themed, Read Beyond the Beaten Path, and runs June 4 through July 30th. It is not too late to sign up for summer reading at your nearest library branch!
